Page formats
GiftPrint supports four page formats, all available on every plan. Choose your default in Settings, or switch format for a single print on the order and batch screens.
Comparison
| Format | Dimensions | Optimal text length | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A6 | 105×148mm (4.1×5.8 inches) | ~120 characters | Standard greeting cards, default choice |
| Thermal 4×6 | 4×6 inches (101.6×152.4mm) | ~120 characters | Zebra, Rollo, Dymo thermal label printers |
| Square 3×3 | 3×3 inches (76.2×76.2mm) | ~50 characters | Small square cards, sticker printers |
| 4-up A4 | A4 page with 4 A6 cards | 4 × 120 characters | Office printers, batch printing, crop marks |
When to use each format
A6 — Standard gift card
The default and most popular format. Fits standard gift card envelopes and sleeves. Perfect for boxed gifts, flowers, or jewelry.
Thermal 4×6 — Label printers
For merchants using dedicated thermal printers (Zebra, Rollo, Dymo). No ink required — text and designs burn directly onto thermal paper. Thinner margins optimize label real estate.
Enable Thermal / B&W mode in Settings for thermal printers. This forces black-and-white output and thickens borders for crisp cuts and burns.
Square 3×3 — Compact cards
Small square format, ideal for sticker printers or when card stock is limited. Text automatically sizes down to fit the compact space. Great for boutique or minimal aesthetic.
QR codes (Pro plan) are not rendered on Square 3×3" cards — there isn't enough room next to the message. Switch to A6, Thermal 4×6", or 4-up A4 if you need a QR code on the card.
4-up A4 — Batch printing
Print four A6 cards on a single A4 page with crop marks and registration lines for guillotine trimming. Perfect when printing in bulk — align, trim, and you have four finished cards. The format is available on every plan; batch printing (multi-order) requires Starter or Pro.
How many cards fit per A4 page? Always four (2×2 grid). GiftPrint fills slots top-left → top-right → bottom-left → bottom-right.
What happens when you print fewer than 4 orders?
| Orders selected | Pages generated | Layout |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 page | 1 card top-left, 3 empty slots |
| 2 | 1 page | 2 cards on top row, 2 empty slots |
| 3 | 1 page | 3 cards filled, 1 empty slot bottom-right |
| 4 | 1 page | All 4 slots filled |
| 10 | 3 pages | 4 + 4 + 2 cards (last page has 2 empty slots) |
Empty slots are left blank intentionally — you can cut and store them as blank A6 cards for future hand-written notes, or simply discard them. If paper economy matters, wait until you have a multiple of 4 orders before printing in this format, or switch to A6 which generates one page per order with no waste.
The /try demo page shows only one card on the A4 sheet because it generates a preview from a single message. In real batch printing (Starter or Pro), all selected orders fill the slots — try the Batch print action in the admin to see a fully populated sheet.
Thermal and B&W mode
Thermal mode forces all colors to black or white and thickens borders to ensure crisp output on label printers. It is a shop-wide setting — enable it in Settings → General.
This mode is essential if you use:
- Zebra thermal label printers
- Rollo label printers
- Dymo thermal label makers
- Any direct thermal or thermal transfer printer
Order ID footer
Optionally display the order number in small text at the bottom-right of each card. Enables warehouse staff to quickly match printed cards to orders when processing multiple shipments.
Enable it in Settings → General. It applies shop-wide and is available on all plans.
Font sizing per format
GiftPrint automatically adjusts font size based on message length and format:
| Format | Base size | Min size | Breakpoints |
|---|---|---|---|
| A6 / 4-up | 12pt | 8pt | 120 / 200 / 300 / 400 chars |
| Thermal 4×6 | 11pt | 8pt | 100 / 180 / 280 / 380 chars |
| Square 3×3 | 9pt | 7pt | 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 chars |
Longer messages shrink proportionally to stay readable. CJK characters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) count as 1.8× width of Latin letters for sizing purposes.
