Printing settings
GiftPrint lets you set shop-wide defaults in Settings → General. On the order and batch screens you can then switch the template and the page format for that print without changing your defaults. Every other print setting on this page is shop-wide.
Default page format
Set which format new orders use by default (A6, thermal 4×6", square 3×3", or 4-up A4). You can still choose a different format when printing each order — this is just the starting point.
Visit Page formats to understand when to use each format.
Thermal and B&W mode
A shop-wide setting. Thermal mode forces all colors to black or white and thickens borders — essential for thermal label printers (Zebra, Rollo, Dymo) and laser printers that cut along guides.
Without thermal mode, gradient colors and thin lines may not transfer well to thermal paper.
Order ID footer
Optionally add the order number in small text at the bottom-right corner of each card. Warehouse staff can quickly match printed cards to orders when processing multiple shipments simultaneously. Also a shop-wide setting — toggle it in Settings → General before the print run.
Edit message before print
Every gift note can be edited before download:
- Open the order in GiftPrint
- Click Edit next to the gift message
- Modify text in the modal with live preview
- Click Save and Download PDF
Your edits are session-only — the original customer message in Shopify remains unchanged.
Use the edit feature to fix typos, adjust tone, or personalize a generic message before printing.
Custom messages for orders without gift notes
Even if an order has no gift message, you can still print one:
- Open the order
- Click Write a custom message (instead of Edit)
- Enter your text
- Choose template and format
The card prints with your custom text. The original order is unchanged.
Batch printing
Available on Starter (up to 20 orders) and Pro (unlimited).
From the dashboard
- Click Batch print
- Select orders from the list
- Click Generate PDF
- Download the combined PDF with all selected orders
- Print and trim as needed
From Shopify admin (bulk actions)
Set up Bulk Actions in Shopify Partner Dashboard so you can print directly from the order list:
- Partner Dashboard → Apps and sales channels → Apps and sales channels settings
- Find GiftPrint → Configuration → Admin links
- Click Add link:
- Label: "Print Gift Notes"
- Target: "Order"
- Page:
/app/batch - Selection: "Bulk"
- Save
Now when you select multiple orders in Shopify admin, a Print Gift Notes action appears in the bulk actions menu.
Picking a layout for the batch
Batch print uses your shop's default page format (set in Settings → General) for every card in the run. You can switch the format for the current batch from the dropdown on the batch page — for example, choose 4-up A4 to print four A6 cards per A4 sheet with crop marks, ideal for high-volume runs.
Batch print applies a single template and a single page format to every order in the batch. If you need different templates per order, print those orders individually from the order view, where per-order template overrides and message edits are available.
Plan limits on batch printing
- FREE: Batch printing not available. Print one order at a time.
- Starter: Batch print up to 20 orders per PDF.
- Pro: No plan limit on orders per PDF. A technical ceiling of 500 orders per run still applies — it protects browser PDF generation from hanging, and orders beyond 500 are dropped from the selection rather than queued.
Exceeding the Starter limit shows a warning banner with an upgrade link — split into multiple batches or upgrade to continue.
Monthly usage tracking
Your monthly counter is incremented per gift note card, and only when a card is marked as printed — not by the PDF download itself:
- Printing a single card counts as one use. If that card was already marked printed, re-downloading it is free.
- Download All on an order counts only the cards in that order that were not yet printed.
- A batch download counts only the not-yet-printed cards across the selected orders. Re-running a batch that includes orders you already printed does not charge you twice for them.
- An order with three gift messages counts as three, not one — the unit is the card, not the order.
Check your usage anytime in Settings → Plan (or in Settings → Analytics for richer breakdowns on Starter and Pro). Usage resets on the first of each month.
